Report: Sixers Ownership Group Looking To Buy The NHL's Devils

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Joshua Harris and the group that owns the Philadelphia 76ers could be looking to expand their sports empire to the NHL.

The Sixers ownership is preparing an offer to buy the NHL's New Jersey Devils, according to a report from 94WIP's Howard Eskin. Eskin says that Harris met with Devils owner Jeffrey Vanderbeek on August 1st, to try and work out the details of an offer.

According to Forbes, the current value of the Devils is $205 million. Forbes also reports that the NHL will take control of the franchise before the upcoming season unless there is a buyer. The report says the Vanderbeek is $230 million in debt with the franchise.

Harris' group bought the Sixers in October of 2011 for a reported $280 million. Comcast Spectacor still owns the Wells Fargo Center.
