Trade Deadline Passes Quietly For The Phillies

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – There was no shortage of rumors, but the MLB non-waiver trade deadline passed at 4pm, and the Phillies did not make a deal.

Jonathan Papelbon, Michael Young, Cliff Lee, Chase Utley, Carlos Ruiz and more were mentioned in trade rumors, but Ruben Amaro was either unwilling, or unable to make a deal before the 4pm deadline.

This does not mean the Phillies cannot make a deal. There is still plenty of time before the new trade deadline passes, in which a player must clear waivers before being traded. If a player is placed on waivers and claimed, the Phillies will either be able to work a deal out with the team, let the player go, or revoke the player's waivers and not allow him to be claimed.

There will likely be some major names placed on waivers, as both Cliff Lee and Ryan Howard were placed on waivers last season as a matter of procedure.

Michael Young and Carlos Ruiz , both free-agents after this season, seem like the most likely to be dealt.
