Six Hospitalized After Violent Night In Philadelphia

By Al Novack

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police were busy with a night of violence Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

It was just before 2 a.m. when gunshots rang out in the 2800 block of North Lee Street in West Kensington. Police arriving on the scene found three victims. A 13-year-old boy was shot in the hip, a 23-year-old man suffered a bullet wound to the chin, and a 19-year-old man was shot once in the leg. All three are hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries in stable condition. Police have no suspects. The gunman who fled in a green van remains at large.

A woman was hit over the head and then shot in the head around 8 p.m. inside her Northern Liberties apartment in the 100 block of Girard Avenue. Police say the victim answered her door expecting a friend, instead the victim was greeted by a stranger who ordered the victim to her 3rd floor apartment where she was first struck and then shot. The victim, who was originally said to be a man, is now in critical condition at a local hospital. Police have no one in custody.

Police expect charges to be filed against a 64-year-old man in connection with an overnight shooting in the 1500 block of West Olney Avenue in Olney. A man who was shot multiple times during a domestic dispute remains in critical condition at Einstein Hospital. Police say the two men knew one another. The suspect is under treatment for cuts and bruises.

And police are questioning a possible suspect in connection with a stabbing around 1:30 a.m. in the 4700 block of Wayne Avenue. Detectives say a 37-year-old man embroiled in an argument was stabbed in the leg. He was listed in stable condition at Temple University Hospital.
