Cops: Camp Director In Montgomery County Failed To Report Alleged Sexual Assault

EDITOR'S NOTE: An attorney for Ryan Wexelblatt confirmed to CBS3 his client successfully completed a pre-trial diversion program and the charges stemming from the July 2013 incident were dropped. Records provided to CBS3 show the case was expunged in August 2017.

UPPER PERKIOMEN, Pa. (CBS) -- The director of a summer camp in Montgomery County is facing charges after investigators say he did not alert police after the report of a sexual assault at the camp.

Ryan Wexelblatt has been arrested and is facing charges of Failing to Report Suspected Child Abuse and related offenses.

According to investigators, the alleged sexual assault occurred during the overnight hours of July 4 into July 5. The juvenile victim disclosed to camp counselors that he had been sexually assaulted while in his room that night.

Investigators say those counselors immediately went up the chain of command, notifying the most senior counselor who, in turn, explained the alleged assault and identified the juveniles responsible for the assault to Wexelblatt in the morning on July 5.

According to investigators, Wexelblatt interviewed all of the juveniles involved in the reported assault and instructed his senior counselor to drive the two juveniles responsible for the alleged assault to the Philadelphia Airport on July 5 and make sure that they boarded flights to return home.

Despite his mandatory responsibilities as a child care worker to report such assaults on children, investigators say Wexelblatt did not report the alleged sexual assault to any law enforcement or child protective services.

In addition, investigators say at no time did Wexelblatt instruct any of his counselors and/or employees to report the victim's suspected sexual assault to the proper authorities.

Wexelblatt has been arraigned and his bail has been set at $20,000. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for September 12.
