Murder Charges Filed Against Southwest Philadelphia Woman For The Death Of Her Daughter

By Al Novack

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Southwest Philadelphia mother was arrested and charged with homicide late Thursday in connection with the Tuesday death of her four-year-old daughter.

Authorities say Josephita Brown, of the 2200 block of South 56th Street, is facing arraignment on murder charges.

Police say she brought her daughter to Children's Hospital early Tuesday morning (see related story) and the young girl died a short time later.

The hospital noticed the girl had numerous bruises and police were notified.

An autopsy revealed the girl died of a laceration of the liver. The mother's boyfriend was also questioned, but no charges have been filed against him.
