Veteran Journalist Takes Over As Head Of Temple Communications School

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A veteran journalist has been named the new dean of Temple University's School of Media and Communication.

Seattle Times executive editor David Boardman takes over September first as the new dean of Temple's communications school. Boardman witnessed the digital journalism revolution first hand, during 30-years at the largest news organization in the Pacific Northwest.

"I certainly have been living the reality of what's happening in the communications world and particularly in the world of journalism. And what I've seen is that there's never been more need for the values and services that professional journalism and public service communication provide."

Temple's School of Media and Communication serves 3,000 students studying journalism, advertising and media production.

Boardman grew up in Chester County and went to Downingtown High before moving to Ohio his senior year. He succeeds Thomas Jacobson, who's been interim dean since 2009.
