Chestnut Hill College Expands Its Community Mental Health Outreach

By Lynne Adkins

FLOURTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A local college has begun offering additional low cost psychological services to the community.

Chestnut Hill College has been providing mental health evaluations to needy area residents.  Now, doctoral students will gain additional experience by offering outpatient therapy services, according to Dr. Cheryll Rothery, chair of the school's department of professional psychology.

"You meet with a professional, you have the opportunity to identify what problem areas you are facing in your life, talk about the consequences of those problems in terms of what symptoms you may feel as a result, and generate solutions in a nonjudgmental setting," she explains.

Rothery says the cost is based on a patient's ability to pay, and services are provided at the college's clinic in Flourtown (Montgomery County).
