Weather Blog: The Heat Goes On

By Carol Erickson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - When Sonny and Cher did it, it was the BEAT goes on. When a Bermuda high sings it, it is the HEAT goes on…and on and on.

With that active heat pump pulsating, Sunday afternoon temperatures will reach the mid 90's and feel hotter.

Dew points continue in the oppressive range, combined with the temperatures, the feel of our weather reaches triple digits during the afternoon and the excessive heat warning continues through 8 p.m.

By Monday, temperatures might not quite make 90 degrees, but it will be so close you'll hardly notice the difference.

A shower or thunderstorm could break out giving some relief from the relentless heat, but its time to ramp up your efforts to keep people and pets cool.

Check on your elderly friends and neighbors to make sure they are cool; a simple phone call or knock on the door could save a life. Bring those pets into conditions as cool as the ones you are in and tell others to do the same.

There is no excuse for anyone, human or animal, to suffer in the heat.
