Philadelphia's Heat Helpline Remains Open As Excessive Heat Warning Continues

By Suzanne Monaghan

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The excessive heat warning remains in effect for the region and the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging's Heat Line will remain open until 8 p.m. Sunday.

The heat line has continued to take calls during the second day of the excessive heat warning.

"As the heat wave continues, our calls go up," says Heat Line Supervisor Heidi Gambino, who encourages people to call if they need help. "We triage calls depending on the seriousness of them and we can actually send out a mobile team and we do give out tips on staying cool."

Some of those tips include, keeping your windows open, drinking plenty of water, wearing light clothing, taking a cool bath and staying on the lower floors of your house.

"These things can really make the difference between staying safe in your home, being a little uncomfortable or ending up in the ER," says Gambino.

The Heat Line number is 215-765-9040.
