Police Search For Suspect Wanted In Shooting Of Cab Driver

By: Tim Jimenez

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia Police are looking for a man who they say shot and robbed a cab driver last week.

Police describe 27-year-old Paul Leavy as armed and dangerous and on the loose.

Southwest Detectives Lieutenant John Walker says he shot a Freedom Taxi cab driver at about 10 p.m. last Thursday at Farragut and Walnut Streets in West Philadelphia.

"(Leavy) sticks the gun through the partition. The cab driver sees it, reaches for it. (Leavy) fires one time and the disturbing part about this, after shooting the cab driver, he doesn't try to get out and run away, he continues the robbery,' said Lt. Walker.

The driver was shot in his right thumb and left index finger, while police say Leavy stole the driver's money, cell phone and car keys.  Authorities say he was last seen going south on Farragut Street.

Walker says the suspect also goes by the name Muhammad Leavy. His last known addresses are the 4900 block of Florence Street and the 4600 block of Walnut Street.

Anyone with information is asked to call Southwest Detective Division at 215-686-3183, or dial 911.
