Affordable Care Act Details Explained At Hunting Park Health Center

By Molly Daly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Representatives from the federal agency tasked with setting up the health insurance exchanges under the Affordable Care Act visited the Esperanza Health Center in the city's Hunting Park section Wednesday afternoon. They were there to demonstrate the online tools aimed at helping consumers find health insurance that fits their budgets.

Lorraine Ryan, a public affairs officer for CMS, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, says both the toll-free number and the website were launched Monday.

"The website is www.healthcare.gov, and it is very navigable," Ryan said. "There's a lot of really good resources there, and we urge people to check it out."

The site answers basic questions about the healthcare law. But with states and the federal government running behind schedule on setting up the exchanges, there's now only general information about coverage.

Esperanza's Karen Norris says navigating the site should make it a snap for their web-savvy clients.

"There's also folks who will need us to sort of walk them through the process, and we're gonna go to them with the information," Norris explained.

The 24-hour toll-free number is 800-318-2596.
