2 Convicted Following Brutal Attacks In Philadelphia's Historic District

By Tony Hanson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Authorities say a group of men were targeting visitors to Philadelphia's Historic District.

The attacks happened four days apart on 4th Street on Independence Park property.

Santos Centeno and his nephew, Baldwin, have been convicted of the brutal attack on a man looking for his car, which had been towed. The victim was left lying on the street, suffering from brain injuries, facial fractures and other injuries.

Santos Centeno has also been convicted of attacking a married couple in the same area four days later. The man was attacked first by several men -- he called it "a barrage of fists coming at him" -- and then Centeno went after his wife.

Baldwin Centeno has been acquitted of the second attack. Both defendants were immediately taken into custody to await sentencing. Authorities say the other attackers have not been identified, but this is an ongoing investigation.
