Retweet This: 'Tweeting' Added To Oxford English Dictionary
By Melony Roy
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- "Tweeting" is now formally recognized as a part of the English language by the Oxford English Dictionary.
The word tweet, in the social-networking sense, has just been added to the Oxford English Dictionary. Chief editor John Simpson announced the addition in the June update.
The definition of the word tweet has also been expanded: "To make a posting on the social networking service Twitter," or "To use Twitter regularly or habitually."
The addition breaks at least one Oxford English Dictionary rule: that a new word needs to be current for ten years before consideration for inclusion.
Other tech-related words added this year are "crowdsourcing," "mouseover," "e-reader" and "redirect."
