Local Shelters, Organizations Hold 'Mega Adoption Event' In Montgomery County

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. (CBS) - If you are looking for a pet to round out your family life, there's a two day pet adoption event happening in Plymouth Meeting.
It's called the "All Paws on Deck Mega Adoption Event" and its being hosted by PetSmart Charities, the Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia and at least 10 local shelters.
"Our shelter takes in over 32,000 animals a year and we want to find them all happy homes," says volunteer coordinator Carolyn Fitzgerald.
She says the event is free, and all pets will be spayed, neutered and micro-chipped before the adoption is complete.
"We recommend that everyone brings their entire family to this because adopting a pet is adding a new family member to your household. And if you have a resident dog in your house we would suggest bringing them as well if you are going to adopt another dog to make sure it's a good match," she explains.
The adoption event is being held on Saturday and Sunday at the PetSmart it the Plymouth Meeting Metroplex and over 500 cats and dogs will be there.
