Pennsauken Cops: Boat Arson Suspect Was Caught on Video

By Mark Abrams

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. (CBS) -- Pennsauken township police say they are studying surveillance video which captured a suspect lurking near the Camden County boathouse who is believed connected to the arson fire that destroyed boats used by the Bishop Eustace Preparatory School rowing team.

Pennsauken police lieutenant Michael Probasco says the Bishop Eustace boats were two 16-foot motorized launches parked at the dock on the Cooper River.  Both were destroyed by the fire that was set early Wednesday morning.

Two other boats were damaged.

Probasco says the arsonist probably had no idea there were surveillance cameras which captured his movements.

"On the video, it clearly shows a male walking up to the boats and then we can see him leaving the area once the boats were set on fire," Probasco tells KYW Newsradio.

He says police believe the same man may be responsible for setting fires to two vehicles parked along Route 130 and North Park Drive earlier Tuesday night.

And he asks anyone with information about the incident to call the Pennsauken detective division at 856-488-0080.
