PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A school district police officer is hospitalized in good condition after authorities say he was body slammed by a student on Tuesday.

The alleged incident happened at about 11 a.m. at Strawberry Mansion High School.

Philadelphia School District officials say a student who had been suspended from the high school tried to enter the building, but was stopped by a school district police officer.

School District spokesperson Fernando Gallard says the officer ordered the student to leave the building.

"Not only did he decline but he ended up assaulting the police officer and pushed the police officer and the police officer fell and hit his head on the floor," said Gallard.

Gallard says the officer was bleeding and was taken to Temple University Hospital.

As for the student, identified only by officials as a 12th grader, besides a longer school suspension Philadelphia Police have charged him with assault.
