NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The Nets are continuing to search for their next head coach, and it’s no secret that owner Mikhail Prokhorov likes big names.

Cue Larry Brown, the current head men’s basketball coach at Southern Methodist University.

The Nets and the 76ers — who lost their coach on April 18 when Doug Collins resigned — have contacted the Hall of Famer, a source told SportsNet New York.

“Three NBA teams have talked to him,” the source told SNY.

The third team is possibly the Los Angeles Clippers, according to the network.

The 72-year-old was born in Brooklyn and attended Long Beach High School on Long Island. Throughout his illustrious career, Brown has coached the Denver Nuggets, the New Jersey Nets (from 1981-1983), the San Antonio Spurs, the Los Angeles Clippers, the Indiana Pacers, the Philadelphia 76ers, the Detroit Pistons, the New York Knicks and the Charlotte Bobcats.

He won an NBA title with the Pistons in 2004 and an NCAA championship with Kansas in 1988. He was named the NBA Coach of the Year with the 76ers in 2001 and the Naismith College Coach of the Year with Kansas in 1988.

“He loves to teach and coach basketball,” the source close to Brown told the network. “He walks six or seven miles a day. I think he’ll coach till he’s 80. He has more juice than a guy 20 years younger than him.”

On Thursday, it was reported that Pacers associate head coach Brian Shaw has emerged as a serious target for Brooklyn’s head-coaching position.

The Nets have also asked permission to interview Memphis Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins, sources told ESPN.

It was also reported this weekend that the Nets have contacted former Knicks head coach Jeff Van Gundy.

The Nets did not retain interim coach P.J. Carlesimo after the team lost to the Bulls in seven games in the first round of the 2013 NBA Playoffs.
