Fit Fest Kicks Off Fitness Week In Manayunk

By Tim Jimenez

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If you want to tackle the famous Manayunk Wall a day before hundreds of pro cyclists get their chance at the Philly Cycling Classic, today is your day. Manayunk Fit Fest is taking place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It's a family friendly festival dedicated to breaking a sweat.

"15 different fitness related businesses in Manayunk are offering free pick up classes all day," says Jane Lipton with the Manayunk Development Corporation.

Throughout the day you'll have an opportunity for some free half-hour classes like yoga or dance. Free consultations are also available along with a chance to check out some local trails. All of this takes place at the lot at Levering and Main Streets.

And on the eve of the big bike race, you'll get a chance to go up and down the Manayunk Wall before the cyclists do.

"You walk the wall and it costs $15 for an adult, $5 for kids," says Lipton.

She says all the money raised from "Walking the Wall" will go to a few non-profits based in Manayunk and Roxborough.

"We want to support all these organizations that are in our district and we want the kids and families to be able to participate in the bike race," she says. "So, if you can't ride a bike up the wall, you certainly can walk it."

Fit Fest kicks off Fitness Week in Manayunk, showcasing the 18 different fitness-related businesses in the neighborhood.
