3 Charged In South Philly Tire Slashings

By Mike Dougherty, Jericka Duncan

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia police have arrested three people in connection with Friday's tire slashing spree in South Philly.

This happened on the 800 block of South 17th and 18th Streets. Dozens of people discovered the vandalisms as they were getting ready to leave for work.

Police released video of the suspects (see related story) and the tips came pouring in. It didn't take long for detectives to track down 23-year-old Bianca Beck, 31-year-old David Whitfield and 29-year-old David Baker.

"All three have been charged with 39 counts of criminal mischief, 39 counts of possession of an instrument of crime and 39 counts of criminal conspiracy," says Lt. John Stanford, with South Detectives.

Stanford says video camreas at businesses and private residences are a major asset for cime fighting.

"That's why we try to get people signed up for Safe Cam. We try to let people know the importance of the video, for not only this crime but we put them out for everything," he said.

There was a 4th person along with the three suspects Friday morning, but Lt. Stanford says they have everybody who was responsible for slashing the tires and keying all of the cars.
