Marlins Pitcher Sanabia Spit On Ball In Monday Night's Phillies Game

By Spike Eskin

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – In what has become an all too common occurrence, the Phillies struggled against a subpar pitcher on Monday night. Marlins righthander Alex Sanabia came into Monday night's game against the Phillies with an ERA over 5.00. The Phillies, not surprisingly, managed just one run on a Dom Brown home run.

The Phillies may have an excuse in this one. Maybe this is just wishful thinking, but maybe just this one time they have an excuse.

After Brown's home run, Sanabia is seen on video clearly spitting on the new baseball he was thrown that he would use against the next batter. He is seen rubbing the ball vigorously after spitting on it.

Spitting on the baseball is illegal in MLB, and has been for almost 100 years.

Unfortunately, this doesn't quite explain every other game in which the Phillies only score one run.
