Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Cancels Fourth Of July Celebration

LAKEHURST, NJ (CBS) – A New Jersey joint military base has canceled its annual Fourth of July celebration.

Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst has pulled the plug on the festivities – which usually include entertainment and a fireworks show -- due to "current fiscal constraints."

According to the base's public affairs department, the cancellation follows the Department of Defense's announcement that most civilian employees will be furloughed beginning in July.

The base also reports that a number of military open houses, airshows, flyovers, orientation flights, and service aerial demonstration team performances have recently been canceled.
