Police: 2 Shootings In South Philadelphia Just Days Apart Appear To Be Related

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Police say two shootings just days apart in South Philadelphia may be related.

The first shooting happened on May 7 at 5th and Reed Streets. Around 10:44 p.m., a 19-year-old man later identified as Jamahl Miller was shot and killed.

Then, on Thursday, May 9 around 2 p.m., a young woman was at 2000 Reed Street, outside the Mitchum Wilson Funeral Home, where Miller's funeral was being held.

Police say a van pulled up to the scene and opened fire, striking the woman, who is believed to be Miller's girlfriend.

The woman was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania by private auto, where she is in stable condition.

Police did arrest a suspect near the scene of the Thursday shooting. He is currently being questioned.

A firearm was also found in a nearby trash can.
