Police ID Body Found Washed Ashore In Ocean City As Missing Boat Captain

OCEAN CITY, N.J. (CBS) -- New Jersey State Police confirm that the body found washed ashore in Ocean City Wednesday morning is a boater who went missing last week.

State Police say that the body of 34-year-old David McAuliffe was found just before 6 a.m. by a front-end loader operator between 25th and 26th Streets.

McAuliffe was captaining a boat went it went missing on April 23rd in the Great Egg Harbor inlet. (See Related Story)

McAuliffe, of Egg Harbor, left Farley State Marina at 7:45 a.m. that morning, heading to Somers Point, New Jersey, but he never arrived.

A US Coast Guard search went on for two days, covering 400 square miles, but it was called off the night of April 24th.

The ship was found the following day upside down just south of the Great Egg Harbor inlet.

The investigation into the discovery of the body is ongoing.
