Philadelphia Police Hold Event To Raise Awareness About Fairmount Park Rapist

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Nearly 10 years later, Philadelphia police are actively searching for a man known as the Fairmount Park rapist.

Philadelphia Police Special Victims Unit and police explorers were out along Kelly Drive handing out flyers with a composite sketch of a man suspected of four separate rapes and a murder from April 2003 to August 2007.

"Through forensics and DNA all of the attacks were linked to this one specific person that we have on all of the flyers and posters that we have out here today," said Lt. Anthony McFadden is with the Special Victims Unit.

Margaret Glavin of Montgomery County was walking her dog and welcomed the police effort.

"As a mother of a teenage girl that rows on the river I think it is fantastic. You know the more awareness we have about this stuff the more we can keep our children safe and ourselves safe."

Police say they occasionally get tips from the public on the Fairmount Park rapist and actively pursue them.

Anyone with information is asked to call (215) 686-3335 or (215) 685-3251.
