Expert Says He's Found Biblical City

By John Ostapkovich

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - An archeologist, described as a real Indiana Jones type, has made great strides in unearthing a Biblical city whose name is legendary but whose existence no longer is.

Driven by faith to find the city of Sodom, the divine destruction of which is described in Genesis, Steven Collins took a new look at what the Bible had to say about the place, and turned a little east, into Jordan.

There, says Latayne Scott - co-author along with Collins of Discovering the City of Sodom - was the jackpot.

"For eight seasons he has been excavating this city and found incredible things that not only identify it as being in the right place but it's also at the right time, during the lifetime of Abraham, and it has incredible artifacts that confirm many details in the book of Genesis," including a three foot thick burn layer, and pottery half-turned to glass by the heat of a cataclysm Scott explains.
