DASH App Makes It Easier For A Surgeon At Jefferson
By Lynne Adkins
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A local physician has found a unique use for his iPod during surgery.
Dr. Fabio Orozco, a joint replacement Surgeon at the Rothman Institute, uses his iPod during replacement surgery. He had used traditional computers to help guide him during surgery but finds DASH - the app-based system, has several advantages.
"The main thing is that with computer navigations in the traditional way there is significant cost with the software, the hardware, the maintenance of the equipment and with the iPod you can just sterilize the case put the iPod in the case and you don't need any extra equipment. It's very portable."
Orozco admits that few doctors are currently using DASH, but expects that will change as the technology and software improve.
