Grand Opening Of South Jersey Pet Rehabilitation Center Draws Hundreds

By Mike Dougherty

WOOLWICH TWP., N.J. (CBS) - The Rollins Center for Animal Rehabilitation officially opened Saturday at the St. Francis Veterinary Center in South Jersey.

It's not often that several hundred people show up for the grand opening of a pet rehab facility.

It's equally infrequent for an all-star shortstop to put his name on the marquee and bring the Phanatic and Phillies ball girls for the celebration.

"This is where we bring our dogs. Kato, before he passed, came here and did rehab from April to October," says Jimmy Rollins.

He and his wife Johari live nearby. They are touched to see so many of their neighbors here support something they are so passionate about.

"It's great, amazing. We've met so many people and seeing all of the kids and having a lot of the local community be involved with the whole event is just wonderful," explains Mrs. Rollins.

Dr. Caroline Garzotto runs the rehabilitation center and says a lot of the techniques and technology they use are borrowed from sports medicine.

"We have therapeutic laser, therapeutic ultrasound and an underwater treadmill," says Dr. Garzotto.

She says rehab can dramatically improve quality of life in animals that have lost all or most of their mobility.
