Philadelphia To Host 2013 Beyond Sport Summit

PHILADELPHIA (CBS)  --  Using sports to promote social change is the mission of a global organization known as Beyond Sport.

The 2013 Beyond Sport Summit and Awards will be held here in Philadelphia.

Flanked by local legends Brian Dawkins and Dekembe Mutombo, Mayor Nutter announced that the Eagles will host the summit with the support of the Philadelphia Sports Congress, the 76ers, Flyers, Phillies and Union.

Nutter says, "The Beyond Sports Summit is a global event that gathers hundreds of leaders in sports, government, business, development and philanthropy to discuss how athletics can be better used as a tool to address social issues such as inclusion, the environment, education. health and conflict resolution."

The summit will be held from September 9th-11th.

It will  be the first summit held in the US since Chicago was the host city in 2010.
