Federal Income Tax Deadline Is Right Around The Corner

By Mark Abrams

PHILADELPHIA  (CBS)  --  If you haven't done so already, you have two weeks left to complete and file your federal income tax return.

Monday, April 15 is just 14 days away and the IRS says there are many of you who haven't sent in your return.

Maybe you didn't even start it.

IRS spokesman Dave Stewart says if you're one of the millions of procrastinators, you still have some time to get things done.

"The first thing I would do is pull out my taxes from last year, before I get started, take a look see if anything much has changed," says Stewart, "then I'd go to IRS-dot-gov. I'd take a look and see what's new up there. And, then I'd get started as soon as I can."

Stewart says consider e-filing - like more than 80 percent of Americans are now doing.

If you still need some more time, you can file for an extension. But, Stewart says if you owe the IRS money, you need to pay that up-front.
