By Tony Hanson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The couple charged with stealing a couple of police cars in Camden and Philadelphia earlier this month confessed, and both told authorities they were on a days-long drug binge and wanted to get warm, get clean and go out with a bang.

Both have been ordered held for trial. (See Related Story)

They described a police officer being hit and rolling across the hood of the stolen Camden cruiser, hitting and nearly missing other civilians, driving on sidewalks, hitting trees, parked cars, even a building.

There were several injuries to police and civilians, but prosecutor D'Andrea says it's very fortunate no one was killed.

"People who are unfortunately addicted to substances like heroin and crack cocaine, things of that nature, their behavior is unpredictable and I think this case highlights that more than any other case, probably I have ever seen," D'Andrea explained.

The defense blames drugs and says both defendants didn't mean to hurt anyone and are remorseful. Plea deals are likely.
