Kimmel Center To Offer New Venue For Film Screenings

By Steve Tawa

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - By this summer, there will be a new venue in Philadelphia for film screenings and there isn't a bad seat in the house.

The Kimmel Center's Perelman Theater will be fitted with state-of-the-art cinema equipment, with just under 500-seats on the Avenue of the Arts, for film-related events, screenings, local premieres and independent films.

The Greater Philadelphia Film Office, which specializes in getting production companies to come here to shoot movies and TV shows, is partnering with the Kimmel.

Film Office Executive Director Sharon Pinkenson says it's a natural fit.

"Our responsibility is to market it, help to book it and to bring programming into that beautiful space," says Pinkenson.

She says "today's movie-going audience hungers for more than an action film in a darkened multiplex."
