PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Franklin Square opened for its 7th season on Wednesday, a sure sign that spring has arrived.

“The most wonderful thing about this park is that it’s named after me,” said Ben Franklin, who was on hand for the season opening.

Dozens of kids waited in line to share in the festivities, which including planting fresh flowers and eating Square burgers and shakes.

“We have the Liberty Park Carousel,” said Amy Needle, President and CEO of Historic Philadelphia. “We have two wonderful playgrounds, we have miniature golf.”

Needle says Franklin Square has lots of events coming up this season.

“On March 31st, we have an Easter Egg Hunt beginning at noon for kids 12 and under,” she said.

Square Burger will officially open on Saturday.

“You can come and have a classic square burger or you can come have a Philly Dog,” said Randi Sirkin of Starr Restaurants. “There is lots of custard and cake shakes.”

Franklin Square is open 7 days a week at 10 a.m.
