Employee Dies After Falling Through Roof At Camden Industrial Complex

By Jenn Bernstein

CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) -- A man is dead after falling through the roof of a building in Camden.

The man, an employee of Harris Companies, was reportedly helping to clean a roof at the company's industrial complex located at 2201 Mount Ephraim Avenue on Monday morning when he fell through the structure.

The owner of the company says the employee fell three or four stories, hit his head on a piece of equipment inside the building, which is rented by a recycling company, and was killed.

The man's identity is not being released until officials notify his family, but the Camden County Prosecutor's office says he is apparently a 50-year-old from Franklinville, NJ.

The owner did say the employee was doing regular spring maintenance, and called him a hardworking guy who was very highly thought of. He says the company has never lost an employee before, and called this a very sad day for the company.

The medical examiner has ruled the death accidental and the cause "multiple injuries."

OSHA is investigating the death, according to the Department of Labor's Public Affairs Office.

A spokesman for it also said Harris Companies has no record of violations.
