Analysis: Pressure On Shapiro To Enter Governor's Race
By Larry Kane
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - In one of the most closely-watched local political battles, the pressure is on a suburban county executive to make a decision.
It's behind the scenes maneuvering in the area Democratic Party. It's all about the Pennsylvania gubernatorial race. Already, Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz and Pennsylvania Treasurer Rob McCord have expressed a strong interest in running against Tom Corbett.
But, a third and perhaps powerful candidate may be under pressure to run. Looking for a moderate alternative, key sources report that several powerful county Democratic leaders are urging Montgomery County Commission Chairman Josh Shapiro to consider a run.
Shapiro will not commit at this point. But, tells us he's keeping his options open.
On the subject of Montgomery County, Shapiro's fellow Commissioner Bruce Castor wants to challenge Governor Corbett in the Republican primary next year.
For now, though, the Democratic race could get more interesting.
