McGillin's Olde Ale House Goes Green

By Michelle Durham

PHILADELPHIA (CBS)  --  McGillin's Olde Ale House is aiming to be the "greenest" Irish Bar in America.

They want to be the first in the city to develop a Zero Waste Stream Plan, and encourage their neighbors to do the same.

McGillin's Olde Ale House is owned by the Mullins family.

Christopher Mullins Jr. is working with Niche recycling, the company conducted McGillin's audit last week to see what their waste stream contains and they are now purchasing items such as straws and plastic cups that are compostable.

Mullins is also negotiating with the owner of a small nearby parking lot, because he wants to turn it into a central trash collection, recycling and composting area for the whole neighborhood.

He says, it will eventually have 2 trash compactors and a large BiobiN for composting kitchen waste.
