Hatboro Man Charged After Infant Dies When He Fell On Her

By Brad Segall

HATBORO, Pa. (CBS) -- A 28-year-old Upper Moreland man is being held in lieu of $1 million bail on a child-endangerment charge.

Montgomery County detectives are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of his two-month-old daughter over the weekend (see related story).

Police arrested Edward Doyle after what appears to be a night of heavy drinking.   According to court papers, Doyle told police he was celebrating a friend's birthday late Saturday night into early Sunday morning.

When he returned to his Hatboro apartment, he told police, he played cards, then argued with his wife at another man's apartment.

He says he returned to his apartment where he found his daughter Makayla crying in her swing.

Court papers indicate tripped over the swing while cradling the baby in his arms, falling on top of the infant.

He says he put her back in the swing but several hours later she was unresponsive.

Medics say she had cuts and bruises on her nose and swelling on her forehead when they arrived.   She was rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced dead.

Police say Doyle told them he shouldn't have been caring for the child because he had drunk too much.
