Fishtown Eatery Named Philadelphia's Best Spot For Burgers

By Pat Ciarrocchi

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Sketch, a little burger joint in Fishtown, is sizzling. National restaurant reviewer Zagat has named it Philly's best place for burgers.

Neal Resnick is a regular and says, "They're delicious... they just are."

His son, Elijah has a favorite.

"It's a kobe burger with grilled onions, pulled pork on top, and it's the variety of flavors that's just amazing."

Tucked along the 400 block of E. Girard Avenue, Sketch has made the big time.

"I thought, it's about darn time," says Phyllis Farqhar, the energetic and creative mind who saw an opportunity in Fishtown four years ago.

"I bought into Fishtown 13 years ago, when it was affordable... and this became available," Farqhar explains. "There weren't too many burger-specialized restaurants, so that's what I came up with."

Every burger is custom made at Sketch, with choices for cheese, toppings and sauces.

Farqhar says the secret is in the meat. She calls the brisket, short-rib and chuck blend "fantastic."

"We have a great bun that's local; the meat is local," says Farqhar. "It's fresh every day... we make all of our sauces and toppings."

Built around the burgers -- made of beef, bison, lamb, chicken, turkey and veggies -- and the customer crayon-created sketches on the wall, Sketch's reputation is growing, one bite at a time.

A burger meal is $15. Fries are hand cut, and sweets are homemade.

Sketch is a family-friendly, neighborhood-centric treat that's helping to make Fishtown a destination.
