1 Killed, Toddler Injured In Single-Car Crash In Delaware

By Steve Beck

NEWPORT, Del. (CBS) – One person was killed and a toddler was injured in a crash in Delaware Monday afternoon.

The accident happened at about 12:30 p.m. on the off-ramp for Route 141 from I-95 southbound in Newport.

Officials say the 1996 Honda Accord was traveling south in the right land of I-95 when, instead of following the lane onto the off-ramp, it continued straight, leaving the road and coming to rest in a wooded ditch.

Twenty-nine-year-old Kristy M. Long, of Wilmington, was killed in the crash. She was properly restrained.

Long's daughter, 1-year-old Aubrey Carter, was taken to Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, where she was treated and released.

Officials later determined that Long died from a "spontaneous brain bleed."

The ramp was closed for about two hours while police investigated the deadly crash.
