Detective Wounded During Accidental Shooting In Gloucester County

WOODBURY, N.J. (CBS) – A detective who accidentally shot himself prompted the temporary lockdown of a high school in Gloucester County Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened in the parking lot of the Gloucester County Justice Complex on Hunter Street in Woodbury, New Jersey.

According to police, a detective with the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office was wounded when his gun accidentally went off. It was not immediately released where the officer shot himself, but his wound is not considered life-threatening.

The detective, who is not being identified because of the nature of the officer's assignment, was taken to Underwood-Memorial Hospital in Woodbury.

The incident is under investigation by the Prosecutor's Office and, as is required in officer-involved shootings, the New Jersey Attorney General's Office has been notified.

As a result of the accidental shooting, nearby Woodbury Junior-Senior High School was temporarily placed on lockdown as a precaution.
