Driver Calls 911 After Finding Body On North Philadelphia Street

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A driver called police after finding a male in the street with multiple gunshot wounds early Tuesday morning in Philadelphia.

Police responded to the scene shortly after 3 a.m. at 17th Street and Lehigh Avenue in North Philadelphia.

According to investigators, a driver called 911 after spotting the victim lying in the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police say the victim was shot in the head, torso and chest.

"Ballistic evidence on the scene indicates that at least seven shots were fired from a semi-automatic handgun," Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

The victim, an unidentified male in his 20s, was rushed to Temple University Hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

So far, no arrests have been made and a motive is unknown. Investigators are interviewing a witness and believe a nearby business had a surveillance camera pointed in the direction of the crime scene.

The deadly shooting remains under investigation.
