Sportsradio 94WIP's Wing Bowl Returns To The Wells Fargo Center

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - SportsRadio 94WIP's Wing Bowl, which has become one of the most celebrated radio events in the world, returns to the Wells Fargo Center on Friday, February 1, 2013 at 6 a.m. Three time champ Jonathan "Super Squibb" will join 26 other eaters at Wing Bowl 21. . The Top Overall Eater will compete to win $20,000 in cash from Steven Singer Jewelers, a $7500 Wing Bowl 21 ring and a medal. The Top Local Eater will compete for a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder S-L from Montgomeryville Acura.

WIP's Wing Bowl 21 is sold out. However, listeners can follow the action live on SportsRadio 94WIP, streamed live on the Internet at cbsphilly.com/wingbowl as well as through the Radio.com app on a variety of mobile devices. For the first time ever, listeners can purchase a Wing Bowl On Demand one hour video event to be broadcast on Friday, Feb. 1 at 1:00PM. Listeners can preorder by going to WatchWingbowl.com.

New this year, SportsRadio 94WIP invited eaters from Philadelphia's biggest sports rival cities including New York, Chicago, Dallas, Washington, D.C. and Boston to compete in Wing Bowl 21. WIP also announced that Philadelphia Eagles Long Snapper Jon Dorenbos will act as the Commissioner of Wing Bowl 21. It's the first time an active Philadelphia professional athlete will serve as commissioner.

A highlight of Wing Bowl 21 will be when Sloth, contestant in Wing Bowl 9, is inducted into the Wing Bowl Hall of Fame. Sloth is known for projectile vomiting and becoming the visual symbol for Wing Bowl's motto "You heave, you leave". His name will be added to the Hall of Fame banner during Wing Bowl 21. Another highlight will be the National Anthem being sung by Casey Conklin, daughter of WIP's Joe Conklin.

WIP Morning Show host Angelo Cataldi, who co-founded Wing Bowl 20 years ago with radio partner Al Morganti said, "At a time when Philadelphia sports teams are struggling to succeed, to the rescue comes Wing Bowl 21, a chance for our city to win back the respect of the rest of the nation. This year's Wing Bowl will feature the top eaters from our biggest rival cities against our own legend, Jonathan Squibb. Of course, our 21st edition will also be filled with more than 100 amazing Wingettes, 20,000 screaming fans, insane sideshows, and the pomp and pageantry of the wildest annual radio event in America. Wing Bowl 21 -- this one is for pride. Wing Bowl 21, I am certain, will be the greatest Wing Bowl of all time with a surprise people will be talking about years and years from now."

The fun will continue throughout the day at WIP's Official Wing Bowl 21 After-Parties. Michael Barkann and Ike Reese will broadcast live from SugarHouse Casino, 1001 North Delaware Avenue from 10a-1P. Jonathan "Super Squibb" and Former Flyer Bernie Parent will both appear.

A portion of the proceeds from WIP's Wing Bowl 21 will benefit the Philadelphia Police Department Survivor's Fund, The Police Athletic League, the Comcast-Spectacor Charities and other beneficiaries.

Many of the contestants in Wing Bowl 21were selected based on their ability to complete challenging eating stunts featured during the SportsRadio 94WIP Morning Show, heard weekdays from 5:30-10:00 AM, or at on-site "Wing-Offs" held throughout Philadelphia. PJ Whelihan's is the official supplier of wings for WIP Wing Bowl 21, their sixth consecutive year as sponsor and supplier.
