Grand Gardens Of Great Britain At Philadelphia Flower Show

By Phran Novelli

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Is anybody else watching Downton Abbey? OK, maybe a few million other people are too, and although the soap opera story is entertaining enough, I mostly watch it to drool over that pile of a house!

I just keep wishing they'd get out in the gardens more. There seems to be a huge garden storyline missing - who's pruning the shrubs, growing the vegetables and planting the perennial borders, not to mention tending the roses?

Garden Design magazine this month features the gardens of Highclere House (GardenDesign.com) where the series is filmed. It's a fun peek, but I still hope future episodes show more of the landscape.

Until they do, if you can't get enough of English gardens, you'll be glad to know that this year's Philadelphia Flower Show, called BRILLIANT!, is all about the grand garden traditions of Great Britain.

You can get free Flower Show tickets by becoming a member of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and
and by joining now you'll be sure to have your tickets in hand before the show starts on March 2nd.
