Officials: Cat To Blame For Power Outage In West Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Nearly 100 residents living in a West Philadelphia apartment complex are without power and a cat seems to the reason behind the outage.

The American Red Cross is assisting the residents at a nearby school turned shelter following the outage which happened at about 11 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities say a four-legged feline is to blame for the incident at the West Park Housing Complex in the 4400 block of Holden Street.

"One of the transformers in the basement, there was a short in that transformer cause by a cat," said  Dept. Chief Derrick Sawyer.

The short caused power to go out in all three buildings in the complex. Power was quickly restored to two of the three buildings and officials working to restore power to the third building.
