It's Time Again For Philadelphia's Grandest Tradition: The Mummers' Parade!

By Jim Melwert

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's New Year's Day in Philadelphia, and that of course means another Mummers' Parade.

It all started at 9:45am as the Comics and the Wench Brigades stepped off -- the comics from Broad and Washington, the Wench Brigades from Broad and Dickinson.

The String Bands, 17 of them, were stepping off at 10am from Broad and Shunk.  The Fancy Division was set to start at Broad and Snyder at 10:30am (that's the "Fancies," not the Fancy Brigades).  The Fancy Brigades are at the Pennsylvania Convention Center for 12 noon and 5pm shows.

The parade route follows the tradition, going up Broad Street, past City Hall, then onto JFK Boulevard, with the final performance zone at 16th and JFK.  Remember, you need tickets to sit in the bleachers at that spot.

There is a new performance zone at Broad and Ritner Street.  Other zones along the Broad Street route include Wolf, Tasker, Washington, Pine Street, and Sansom Street.

And then there is an "after party" back on Two Street in South Philadelphia, into the wee hours of the morning.

So, Happy New Year -- the Mummers' Parade is a go!
