Identity of Kensington Hit-Run Victim Released as Hunt For Driver Goes On

By Tim Jimenez

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police continue to search for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident Christmas night in Kensington.  And they have just released the name of the victim.

According to witnesses, 54-year-old Denise Williams of Overbrook fell and was laying on the sidewalk in the driveway of the Family Dollar Store, in the 3100 block of Frankford Avenue, about 8pm.

Then, police say, a black car -- possibly a Dodge Charger or a similar vehicle -- made a right turn into the driveway, running over Williams (see previous story).

Police say the driver backed over the victim, then stopped.  According to witnesses, an Hispanic woman in her 40s stepped out of the driver's seat, then got back into the car and fled the scene.  Authorities say the car was last seen headed west un the 2000 block of Wishart Street.

Williams was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police department's Accident Investigation Division at 215-685-3180.
