Local Residents Participate In 26 Acts Of Kindness To Honor Newtown Victims

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The tragedy that occurred at an elementary school in Connecticut touched people across the world and left many wanting to lend a hand to their fellow neighbor.

Out of the pain felt over the mass shooting that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown came an inspiring idea that spread like wildfire through social media.

Ann Curry took to Twitter and asked people to do one kind act for each child that lost their life in the massacre.

People not only took her challenge, but increased the number to include the six teachers that were also killed.

26 Acts of Kindness has spread across the nation and touched some in our local area.

Alexa Darrow received her kind act Thursday morning when going to the CIGNA Aramark Café before work.

"I always get coffee from the CIGNA Aramark Cafe in Two Liberty Place before work and on Thursday morning I went to buy my coffee and the woman at the cash register told me it was on her! And then she handed me a card that said 'In memory of Grace Audrey McDonnell #26Acts Pay it forward!'" says Darrow.
