Retailers, Shoppers Hope To Cash-In On Super Saturday

By Mike Dougherty and Andrew Kramer

CHERRY HILL, N.J (CBS) - Super Saturday, the last Saturday before Christmas, is the second most frantic shopping day of the year, behind Black Friday.

"I'm starting my shopping today and I'm going to finish it today. Hopefully sooner than later," this shopper said.

With the days ticking away until Christmas, so, too, are some of the prices at stores. Shoppers who waited until now are being rewarded.

"There have been some really good deals. A lot of stores are having 40%, 30% off the entire store," says Nicole, who was doing some Super Saturday shopping at the Cherry Hill Mall hoping to get some discount prices.

By the look of the crowd, there are plenty of people who had the same idea.

Many retailers have extended their store hours to accommodate shoppers like Nicole, and a lot of them are, indeed, offering some big discounts to lure shoppers in, causing a mad dash for gifts.

"You do tend to get better sales toward the end of Christmas," says Jennifer Culligan, who was shopping at Moorestown Mall in Burlington County Saturday. "Fifty-percent off whatever store you're going to hit up versus three months beforehand when its normal prices, so last-minute shoppers, they get better deals."

Some stores, like Macy's, are open 24 hours a day until Christmas Eve.
