Phillies Officially Sign Reliever Mike Adams

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Phillies have officially announced the signing of right handed relief pitcher Mike Adams.

The contract is worth $12 million over two years, and has a vesting/club option for 2015. Adams will likely assume the role of setup man for the Phillies in 2013.

Adams, 34, spent last season with Texas where he went 5-3 with one save and a 3.27 ERA in 61 appearances.  He finished second on the Rangers staff in appearances and ranked tied for ninth among American League relievers in wins.  Forty-seven of Adams' 61 appearances were scoreless and he held opponents to a .224 batting average with runners in scoring position.
