Whitpain Township Police Investigate Supermarket Robbery Involving Fake Bomb

WHITPAIN, Pa. (CBS) –- Police are investigating a robbery involving a fake bomb at the Giant Food Store in Whitpain Township (Montgomery County), Pa.

According to the Whitpain Township police department, a man walked into the Giant store located at 1760 Dekalb Pike at about 12 midnight Wednesday, demanding money from the register.

Police say the suspect, described as a white male wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and white sneakers, told the cashier he had a bomb and then displayed what appeared to be a device.

The suspect grabbed money from the cash register and ran from the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police say a device connected to this incident was located on the grounds of the supermarket and the Montgomery County sheriff's department bomb squad responded to the scene and determined that the device located was not an explosive device.

The investigation into this incident continues and no arrests have been made.
