RiverRink Opens To Ice Skaters On Black Friday

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Instead of hitting the mall on Black Friday, some folks opted to hit the ice at the season opening of the Blue Cross RiverRink.

The 19th season of the RiverRink kicked off on Friday afternoon, with Rinky the RiverRink Mascot taking the first glide across the ice and a free concert by pop duo Megan & Liz with dozens of adoring fans.

"It's fun and I love Megan & Liz! They are just pretty and can really, really sing."

"We see 75,000 skaters a season and that doesn't count the moms and the dads that stand along the sides and watch their kids," says Jodi Milkman, vice president of marketing and programming at the Delaware River Corporation. She says the RiverRink is open Black Friday through the end of February.

"We have a great heated indoor facility, so if it's a little cold you can sit inside and watch your kids on the big screen while you enjoy your cup of coffee or hot chocolate," says Milkman. "We have date night on Saturday night, we have a deejay out here, a disco ball -- the whole thing."

The RiverRink is open seven days a week, as well as on holidays and offers skating lessons and hosts parties.  For more info, go to RiverRink.com.
